The Acorn Barn is a beautiful, detached thatched cottage, situated in the charming hamlet of Hittisleigh, Devon. Set on a delightful historic site that was noted in the Doomsday book of 1086 with pretty landscaping and views over the medieval St Andrews Church, The Acorn Barn is an idyllic escape for couples seeking a romantic base amidst the countryside of mid Devon. Park up in the driveway before heading into the entrance hall, a large space with flagstone flooring throughout and access to your private garden. Upstairs find the loft style accommodation, offering a light and airy open-plan living space, equipped with a contemporary kitchen housing all the essentials for a week away. Take a seat at the dining table and toast to a much-needed break with your partner, before whiling away the rest of the evening on the sofa. As the night grows darker, retreat to the shower room for a freshen up before finding comfort in the king-size bed. Enjoy mornings from the patio garden, complete with a furniture set so you can bask in the morning sunshine. Three miles away is Whiddon Down where you can find a useful convenience store and coffee spot, whilst a similar distance away is The Old Thatch Inn, a welcoming pub in Cheriton Bishop, perfect for when you fancy a night off cooking. The award-winning pub, The Duck at Yeoford is also just a few miles away: an ideal choice for a special celebration (they even have a pop-up shop and offer takeaways toward the end of each week). Spend an afternoon in Okehampton, where you can visit the ruins of the medieval castle, set on a wooded spur above the rushing River Okement and then stop at Waitrose to stock up on supplies. The ancient city of Exeter is further afield but offers a welcome change of scenery, boasting varied shopping choices, historic quayside and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, holding diverse collections in areas such as zoology, anthropology and fine art. The Dartmoor National Park is easily accessible and boasts a range of outdoor opportunities, including hiking, cycling, climbing, fishing or letterboxing. The Acorn Barn is a truly magical escape for two, whatever time of year.
