Goldfinch offers a genuinely distinctive stay beneath the shelter of oak trees, set within a peaceful five-acre smallholding near Ashwater. Ideal for couples or small families looking to slow things down, this restored gypsy wagon delivers a back-to-nature experience with plenty of thoughtful detail along the way. Inside the wagon, space has been used cleverly and with care. A raised double bed sits above a welcoming sleeping den for children, creating a welcoming hideaway they’ll love. There’s also a small wood-burning stove for cooler evenings and smart storage tucked neatly throughout. Just a few steps outside, the covered outdoor kitchen and dining area becomes the heart of the stay, equipped with a two-ring gas hob, grill, evaporator fridge, and a dining table for shared meals. As night falls, the fire pit with grill sets the scene for relaxed evenings under the stars. Completing the setup is a private shower cubicle with mains water and LPG heating, alongside a compost toilet. This is a place to properly switch off, there’s no WiFi here, but solar lanterns, fairy lights, and torches provide gentle lighting and a memorable atmosphere once the sun goes down. Pets are welcome, and guests are asked to bring sleeping bags for the children’s den. Local shops and a welcoming pub are easily reached by car, while the dramatic North Cornwall coastline and the wide open landscapes of Dartmoor are both well placed for days of walking, exploring, and fresh air. Goldfinch is a special woodland retreat where wildlife, quiet surroundings, and a slower pace take centre stage, simple living done properly.
