Cromford 2.9 miles. Nature’s Retreat is a welcoming stone-built terraced cottage in the tranquil village of Holloway, near Cromford, settled on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Offering walking routes in every direction straight from the doorstep, a log burner, an enclosed garden with panoramic views across the Derwent Valley, and space for two four‑legged companions, this cottage provides a wonderful base for families, friends, and couples seeking a Derbyshire escape. Step into the porch, ideal for leaving muddy boots and coats after days exploring the Derbyshire countryside, before making your way into the inviting living/dining room. Here, a log burner creates an atmospheric glow while you unwind with an evening drink and reflect on your adventures. The dining area offers space to enjoy hearty meals cooked in the well-equipped kitchen. As night falls, freshen up in the bathroom, choosing between a warm shower or a soak in the tub, before settling into one of the two bedrooms, a double with countryside views, or a twin room. Outside, the enclosed garden is the perfect setting for alfresco dining, morning coffees, and soaking in those far‑reaching Derwent Valley vistas. Holloway is a tranquil village set on the side of the Derwent Valley and is home to Robin Maycock’s award‑winning butchers and bakers, the Chase Café tea room, and Lea Hurst, Florence Nightingale’s family estate. The famous rhododendrons of Lea Gardens are only a short walk away. Footpaths from Holloway lead in all directions, including routes down to the Cromford Canal and Cromford Mill, across the hilltops to Crich Stand and the National Tramway Museum, or into Matlock Bath, home to Gulliver’s Kingdom, riverside eateries, shops, museums, and an aquarium. Nearby Matlock and Matlock Bath offer further attractions, while Bakewell and Wirksworth provide charming day trips. Nature lovers can discover Black Rocks, Carsington Water, and Dovedale, while those seeking heritage can explore Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Kedleston Hall. A stay at Nature’s Retreat offers the ideal blend of outdoor adventure, village charm, and classic Derbyshire highlights.
