Outside, the enclosed garden features a patio, lawn, pond and summer house, creating a pleasant space to sit out and take in the peaceful village setting. Portinscale has a friendly pub nearby, while Keswick offers a wider range of shops, cafés and restaurants, along with attractions such as the Theatre by the Lake and the Derwent Pencil Museum. Bassenthwaite Lake provides opportunities for watersports and wildlife spotting, and the market town of Cockermouth is worth a visit for its independent shops and links to William Wordsworth. Ullswater and Aira Force waterfall are also within easy reach for further scenic walks. Oakdene makes a well-situated base for discovering lakes, mountains and traditional Cumbrian towns.
