The Owls Roost
nestled in the picturesque village of Robin Hoods Bay, a historic fishing village
on the North Yorkshire coast between Whitby and Scarborough, lies the ‘Owls
Roost’. This fantastic studio-style shepherds hut is set between the sea and the
moors, offering a superb location.
Perched on a hillside, the ‘Owls Roost’ nestles amongst the trees, providing
stunning views of the sea, Ravenscar and the moors to the west. Its elevated
position on a small holding means you’ll be surrounded by nature, with foxes,
badgers, hares, rabbits, squirrels, owls and buzzards often visiting within
metres of the hut. The area is rich in habitat for small mammals and birds,
including a family of Barn Owls that have made the ‘Owls Roost’ their home
this year. These owls are known to stay in the local area for their entire lives,
familiar with the best hunting spots, shelter and escape routes.
We’ve been lucky enough to spot these owls and other birds of prey flying over
our small farm for years, searching for their next meal. Animals also pass
through, adding to the rich tapestry of wildlife.
To enhance your experience, we’ve installed a spotting scope on the veranda
rail. Guests enjoy scouring the coastline for seals, dolphins and whales, as well
as exploring the fields and moors for wildlife and potential exploration spots.
The ‘Owls Roost’ is an ideal destination for animal and nature lovers seeking a
romantic escape. While you may not see everything, a bit of quiet observation
might just reward you.
The property boasts its own off-road parking, conveniently located about 150
yards from the hut. It also features a fenced garden and friendly sheep,
ducks, chickens and geese that may visit during your stay.
Facing south, the ‘Owls Roost’ ensures you can enjoy the sun throughout your
stay. We’ve provided two sun loungers, a table, tractor seat stools and two
cartwheel rocking chairs for your comfort.
Nestled within a secluded 100-yard radius, this hut offers a private haven
perfect for witnessing breathtaking sunrises, sunsets and the enchanting
Northern Lights, especially during autumn and winter.
Inside, you’ll find a delightful living space featuring a well-equipped kitchen
ideal for preparing delicious meals to savour at the dining table for two or
alfresco with a lovely view. An inviting sitting area with a plush sofa and TV
provides a cosy spot for relaxing with your favourite programme. Head further to a wellappointed shower room for a refreshing end to your day, followed by a
sumptuous double bed for a well-deserved rest.
Explore our charming village to stock up on essentials. Enjoy leisurely strolls,
perhaps accompanied by freshly caught fish and chips from the Fish Box. Treat
your loved one to a meal at The Grosvenor, The Fylingdales Inn, Victoria Hotel
or Brambles Bistro, followed by a drink at the Bay Hotel, Smugglers Ale House,
The Dolphin, the Laurel or The Victoria Hotel. For the more energetic the owls
roost is ideally placed to explore stunning coastal and countryside walks
around Robin Hood’s Bay. From clifftop trails to peaceful woodland paths,
discover the beauty of Robin Hoods Bay and the surrounding area.
For a taste of Robin Hood’s Bay’s rich history, visit the Bay Museum.
Alternatively, explore the Yorkshire Coast Dinosaur and Fossil Museum or
spend a fun-filled day at the beach and rock pools. In recent years Robin
Hoods Bay has become a place of intrigue and we often see camera crews
around the village, some films and programs you may recognise. Heartbeat,
Villages by the Sea, Kate Humble’s Coastal Britain, Take a Hike, This Morning,
Winter Walks and Yorkshire by the Sea to name just a few have brought
famous faces and all the major TV channels to the village.
The Owls Roost is ideally placed to Venture north to Whitby, where you can
climb the iconic; 199 steps to Whitby Abbey. This historic site has been
featured in films like ‘Runaways’ and ‘Dracula Adaptations’, as well as the
music video ‘Holding Back the Years’ by Simply Red. Explore the magnificent
Whitby Abbey and hike along the cinder track. In Whitby, embark on a boat
trip for fishing, seal or whale watching. Visit the Whitby Museum and Art
Gallery and hook your catch of the day at the west pier or enjoy a live
performance at the Whitby Pavilion.
South of Whitby lies Scarborough, home to a remarkable castle. Enjoy the
amusements and Lunar Park or take a dip in the Alpamar water park or relax in
the spa or catch a performance at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, which
hosts top artists throughout the year.
