More information

Dolgellau 4 miles. Waen Fechan is a welcoming house resting in Islawrdref, Gwynedd, enjoying designated off-road parking, mountain and rural views, a garden with a patio and fire pit, and easy access to the nearby coast. Sleeping five guests, this character-filled cottage is well-suited to families, friends, and couples looking to experience the landscapes and heritage of North Wales. Surrounded by striking mountain scenery, Waen Fechan is much more than a holiday cottage. For many years, it was the cherished holiday home of the Willmer family, where treasured memories were made and later immortalised in the book Waen and the Willmers. The cottage has gathered many stories throughout its history, from its connection to a fighter pilot named Neville to the waterwheel couple, May and Idris, whose names remain linked to local legend. Step through the door and discover a cottage rich in character. Exposed beams stretch overhead while traditional stone walls add texture and heritage throughout the home. At the heart of the property lies the living/dining room, where a woodburning stove creates a welcoming focal point after days spent exploring the coastline and countryside. Gather around the dining table to share meals and discuss plans for the days ahead, while the well-equipped kitchen makes preparing family favourites an easy part of the holiday experience. Three thoughtfully arranged bedrooms, comprising two doubles and one single, provide flexible accommodation, while the bathroom features an elegant freestanding bath alongside a handheld shower. Outside, the garden invites guests to spend time in the fresh air, whether enjoying an evening beside the fire pit, dining on the patio, or admiring the magnificent mountain backdrop. For days out, head to Barmouth and enjoy its expansive beach, historic harbour, and the famous wooden Barmouth Bridge. Explore Dolgellau, where charming stone buildings line the streets and the nearby Mawddach Trail and Coed y Brenin Forest Park offer memorable outdoor adventures. Alternatively, visit Harlech, home to the impressive UNESCO-listed Harlech Castle, sweeping sands, and breathtaking views across Cardigan Bay. Whatever adventures await, Waen Fechan offers a wonderful setting from which to discover this captivating corner of Gwynedd.
