Hillswood is a striking detached house situated in Endon, Staffordshire. With an enclosed rear garden, generous open-plan living space and plenty of room for everyone to gather, this impressive retreat is well suited to families and friends looking to explore Staffordshire and the nearby Peak District National Park. Pull onto the gravel driveway and leave the cars in the ample off-road parking before taking in the detached property, with an outdoor seating area to the front offering your first spot to pause in the fresh air. Follow the steps down to the stylish entrance hall, where a seat provides a handy place to remove shoes before you begin exploring. Continue into the expansive open-plan living space, with hardwood flooring and an abundance of natural light creating an attractive setting for time together. Sink into the sofa or one of the armchairs and settle in for a film on the impressive large TV, or move across to a second sitting area where two armchairs with footstools offer another place to put your feet up. At the heart of the room, pull up a seat at the kitchen island and chat with whoever is cooking while they prepare dinner using the double oven and induction hob, with the fridge/freezer keeping ingredients fresh and the dishwasher ready to deal with the plates afterwards. Gather around the formal dining table when dinner is served, with artwork adding interest to the surrounding walls as everyone catches up over the meal. Doors invite you directly onto the raised terrace, extending your time together outdoors and providing a place to sit overlooking the enclosed lawn. For a change of scene indoors, retreat to the snug, settle onto the electric reclining sofa or chair and choose something to watch on the TV, with doors providing another direct connection to the terrace. A ground-floor double bedroom offers a convenient place to retire at the end of the evening, while the ground-floor shower room allows you to freshen up beneath the rainfall shower. A separate utility keeps the practicalities tucked away behind a sliding door, with a washing machine and tumble dryer ready for clothes after days spent exploring the surrounding countryside. Climb the carpeted stairs to the first floor, where two double bedrooms provide restful spaces with wardrobes for unpacking your belongings, while a single bedroom with storage completes the sleeping arrangements for seven guests. Start the next morning in the family bathroom with a soak in the bath or step beneath the rainfall shower over, with a handheld shower also available. Back downstairs, make the most of the enclosed rear garden by carrying a drink onto the raised terrace, settling into the outdoor seating or spending time on the lawn before your next adventure. A local shop and pub are just a short stroll away, while the canal can also be reached on foot for a change of scenery close to home. Venture into the Peak District National Park for dramatic landscapes, countryside walking and far-reaching views across one of England’s best-known national parks. Spend time at nearby Trentham, where the gardens, lakeside setting and shopping village provide plenty to fill a day. Alternatively, make for Rudyard Lake to enjoy the waterside scenery, follow walking routes around the reservoir and take in the surrounding Staffordshire countryside. Leek offers independent shops, places to eat and handsome market-town surroundings closer to home, while Ashbourne provides another characterful base from which to experience the Peak District. At the end of the day, return to Hillswood to gather around the dining table, settle in for a film or step onto the terrace for an evening overlooking the garden.
