The Beacon is a beautiful reverse level barn conversion situated on the main approach to Bigbury-on-Sea village. A tidal causeway crosses to the island, with its famous Art Deco Hotel and the renowned Pilchard Inn, originally a favourite haunt for smugglers.

The owner provide a car parking pass for the field car park at the bottom of the hill, only 200m from the beach, so you can drive back up the hill!
Not only perfect in the summer for a beach holiday, it’s also ideal for those who enjoy a refreshing walk along the stunning South-West coastal path, an exhilarating stroll along the beach or a trip to one of many fine pubs and restaurants in the area in the quieter seasons. To the front of the property is private enclosed sunny garden furnished with garden table and chairs and charcoal barbecue. The garden gate opens to a communal gravel area with steps down to the parking area with two designated spaces for The Beacon. Views from are simply outstanding!
Bigbury-on-Sea is best known for its proximity to the stunning Burgh Island. Renowned for its art deco hotel which was once frequented by Agatha Christie, the island is easily accessed across the sandy causeway at low tide. The island is open for everyone to explore (with the exception of the hotel and grounds), and it is well worth a walk to the top for its breath-taking views. You can stop for refreshments in the 14th Century smugglers’ haunt, the Pilchard Inn, and if you find yourself cut off by the tide, you can catch a ride on the famous sea tractor back across the water.
Bigbury-on-Sea also has a reputation as a fantastic surf destination. Take the plunge with the Discovery Surf School or simply grab your bucket and spade for some traditional sandcastle action on acres of golden sand, or enjoy a swim in the shallow bathing waters. This is a great family beach with life guards on duty from May to September. You can also bring your dog but there are some restrictions during the summer months.
The village has a small shop for all your essentials, and the Venus Café is a great place to refuel after you have worked up an appetite on the beach.
