Set within the extensive grounds of the renowned Lost Gardens of Heligan and just over a mile from the sea, The Clock House is part of the stable block belonging to the Manor House, forming one side of a cobbled courtyard in the private section of the estate. Furnished to a high standard, yet retains many of the 18th century features with high ceilings, large sash windows and the original slate-hung clock tower restored to working order with the preserved weather vane.
It is a short walk to the entrance of The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the largest garden restoration project in Europe, with over 80 acres of gardens. The award-winning Lobbs farm shop is also a short walk and the acclaimed Eden Project is about a 30-minute drive. The nearby villages of St Ewe and Pentewan, approx 1.5 miles respectively, have pubs offering food, and the traditional fishing village of Mevagissey is just over 2 miles away with a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs and a seasonal ferry operating from the harbour to Fowey. Just beyond Mevagissey, the small cove of Portmellon has a shingly beach and the popular family beach at Gorran Haven with safe bathing is about a ten-minute drive.

The pretty town of Mevagissey on the southern coast of Cornwall has its roots firmly in fishing and still today has a bustling harbour with fishing boats and leisure boats coming and going. Once at the very heart of the county's pilchard industry, the numerous restaurants, pubs and takeaways serving locally caught fish reflect its seafaring past.
Wandering around its higgledy-piggledy streets marvelling at the old cob-and-slate buildings, once the haunt of smugglers, you can really get a feel for its watery heritage. Find out more at the excellent Mevagissey Museum, housed in an old boatyard, and learn about the modern fishing industry at the aquarium. For those planning a family holiday in Mevagissey, the World of Railways is classic entertainment for all ages.
Mevagissey is the perfect base to explore Cornwall’s southern coast, which is bejewelled with quiet coves and sandy beaches. For loyal sand-lovers, the local choices are Pentawan, Gorran Haven and Portmellon. Many of the local beaches have interesting rock formations and are popular with fossil hunters.
There are excellent opportunities for fishing and getting out on the water (hire a boat from the harbour), enjoying simply stunning views from the South West Coastal Path and taking in wild flowers and wooded countryside along the Pentewan cycle trail to St Austell via Pentawan beach. One of our favourite things to do during a stay in Mevagissey is to take the scenic route via a ferry over to the harbour town of Fowey to enjoy more shops, restaurants and beaches.
For those who can tear themselves away from the beauty of Mevagissey, the fascinating Lost Gardens of Heligan are less than three miles away and the Eden Project is half an hour’s drive. History lovers should head to the pretty unspoilt port of Charlestown, which is full of Georgian character and often used as a film set with its small but spectacular fleet of tall ships.
Whether you want a relaxing break to potter around a beautiful village awash with history or a base from which to enjoy all the treasures Cornwall’s south coast can offer, the choices are endless when you choose a holiday in Mevagissey.
