    More Information

Sledmere 0.3 miles. This property is a unique semi-detached property once part of the former village fire station in Sledmere. Perched on the edge of the village, midway between Driffield and Malton, it has been creatively converted to provide comfortable and luxurious accommodation, with wonderful views over open countryside and farmland. Well placed for exploring both the East Coast and the rolling hills of the Wolds, this cottage is ideal for walkers and cyclists seeking this hidden, historic corner of Yorkshire. Engine Room Cottage offers three bedrooms, two with en-suite facilities and a ground floor family shower room. With spacious and light, open plan accommodation, this property has no expense spared, where you’ll find a well-equipped kitchen that is bright and modern, with a fire engine colour theme, tiled floors and quality fittings, while the sitting area has sumptuous leather sofas and a large TV. The spacious open plan living area has a feature window, converted from the original engine room door, complete with two exposed red RSJ beams. It is luxuriously furnished to the highest of standards, with French doors opening onto the rear, enclosed patio – a pleasant spot for relaxing and enjoying the rural views. A short stroll brings you to the local village inn, serving food and local ale, whilst a pleasant walk to the stately home of Sledmere House is well worth it. It’s a short drive along country roads to the historic market town of Driffield, which offers independent shops, tea rooms, restaurants and a weekly market day. For culture seekers, there’s the added delight of the Hockney Trail, which encompasses the best of the Yorkshire Wolds. The seaside lies within half an hour’s drive at Bridlington, a traditional seaside resort with golden sands, a pretty harbour and amusement arcades. Be sure to visit the windswept chalk cliffs of Flamborough and Bempton RSPB Reserve, which offer spectacular coastal views, and with York an easy drive, Engine Room Cottage is well placed for a memorable holiday.
