It has an unexcavated roman fort next to the superb Senhouse Roman Museum. Modern Maryport is based on a planned Georgian town and boasts a deep-water harbour and modern marina, a bustling shopping centre, the new Wave Centre, a links golf course, fine Georgian houses, the award-winning Lake District Coast Aquarium and a Maritime Museum.
