Stunning is the only word to describe the location of 2 Ivy Cove. Lannacombe Bay is one of the most beautiful unspoilt stretches of coastline anywhere in England, where dramatic cliffs fall away to sandy coves and the coastal path clambers its way from Start Point to Salcombe and beyond. No. 2 is the middle cottage of three attached coastguard cottages built by the Admiralty in 1903. Owned by the same family since the 1940's it's a much loved family home, a little rough around the edges but still provides cozy, practical, no frills accommodation in a simply glorious spot, well away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The cottage will suit those who want access to the area and aren't too worried about all the comforts of modern living, prefering the simplicity of an earlier time. There are two fine beaches on the doorstep, one shingle and one sand, both good for swimming and perfect for rock-pooling, beach art and family use. Walking is unsurpassed with the South Devon Coast Path at the bottom of the garden.
PLEASE NOTE THAT 2 IVY COVE DOES NOT HAVE WIFI.
A fairly rough track leads from Lannacombe Beach to the coastguard cottages and the area surrounding the three cottages is reached by a gated driveway and is enclosed by low walls and hedging. The grounds are not divided between the cottages (one of which is residential), and the area in front of No.2 is for the use of the cottage itself. A large picnic table on the front lawn overlooks the sea. There is a raised area at the rear which provides a communal clothes line and sun loungers are kept in the ‘washhouse’ alongside this area. A gate on the edge of the grounds of the cottages allows access to a path down to Ivy Cove beach below.
If you are looking for a retreat where you feel completely cut off from the rest of the world, then Lannacombe is for you! Offering some of the finest coastline in South Devon, the secluded sandy beaches at Lannacombe are completely unspoilt and normally very quiet, even in the height of summer, due to limited parking and the remote location.
Sitting right on the coastal path there are miles of stunning coastal path to explore, perfect for walkers of all abilities, while at low tide the beach at Lannacombe is perfect for rock pooling. The nearby village of East Prawle is home to one of the region’s best-loved and most quirky pubs, The Pig’s Nose, while the nearby villages of Beesands and Torcross also offer excellent pubs and restaurants, including fabulous fish and chips at the Start Bay Inn.
A few miles to the west lies East Portlemouth which offers more sandy beaches and ferry access across the estuary to the stunning waterside town of Salcombe. Now a firm favourite with millionaires, celebrities and boat lovers; and home to numerous excellent shops, cafés and restaurants; the town is the perfect day trip from isolated Lannacombe. Slightly further afield are the towns of Kingsbridge and Dartmouth which offer delicious delis, restaurants and independent shops, as well large supermarkets for all those essentials.
A holiday cottage in Lannacombe offers a peaceful escape from the daily grind in a truly beautiful remote and natural coastal setting.
