More information

Broombank is a lovely cottage in Gattonside, Melrose, Scottish Borders, offering countryside views and handy roadside parking on a first-come, first-served basis. With a shop just 0.2 miles away and a pub only 0.1 miles from the door, it’s well placed for easy days out and unhurried evenings, while the river sits 0.5 miles away for gentle strolls with the sound of water never too far from mind. Step inside and you’ll find a bright living/dining room that suits slow breakfasts, board games after a day exploring, and relaxed meals shared around the table. The kitchen is set up for self-catering, with everything you need to prep picnics and hearty suppers before settling in front of the TV. When it’s time to turn in, four well-planned bedrooms offer flexibility for friends or families, with three king-size rooms and a welcoming twin. With three shower rooms in total, including one with a double basin, mornings feel far less rushed, even with a full house. Outside, the garden is an inviting spot to linger with a cuppa, take in the open views, and map out tomorrow’s plans. In Melrose itself, spend time wandering the impressive ruins of Melrose Abbey, then stretch your legs with a walk beneath the Eildon Hills that frame the town so beautifully. If you fancy a change of scene, head to Galashiels for a culture-led afternoon at Old Gala House, a historic home turned museum and gallery. For grand days out, Kelso pairs riverside charm with the standout splendour of Floors Castle. Or venture to Jedburgh to explore Jedburgh Abbey and the Mary Queen of Scots Visitor Centre for a rich slice of Borders history. Whatever your plans, Broombank makes a welcoming base for exploring the region.
