The village of Staveley is a ten-minute drive away and there you will find a good range of shops and places to eat and gateway to the Kentmere Horseshoe and tarn. The Lyth Valley lies behind Cartmel Fell to the east of Lake Windermere and is known for its serene orchard landscapes, in particular damsons. There are a number of widely acclaimed Lake District gastropubs including The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite, The Black Labrador at Underbarrow, The Mason’s Arms at Strawberry Bank and Hare and Hounds at Levens. The unspoilt medieval village of Cartmel on the fringe of the Lake District National Park – a twenty-minute drive from Camellia Cottage. A foodie’s paradise, with inns, shops and the internationally acclaimed Michelin Star restaurant, L’Enclume. There is also Cartmel Racecourse. Ten minutes west of the cottage the bustling village of Bowness sits on the shores of Lake Windermere and again offers a wealth of places to eat and drink, a great selection of shops and visitor attractions for all the family.
