    More Information

Carpenter’s Cottage is a charming, characterful retreat nestled in the heart of Hatherleigh, Devon. Perfect for couples or solo travellers, this delightful 200-year-old listed cottage features a toasty open fire, an enclosed shared courtyard, and convenient roadside parking, an ideal base for exploring the spectacular Dartmoor National Park, which is just 15 minutes’ drive away. Step inside to find an inviting living room with exposed beams and a warming open fire, ideal for cosy evenings after a day on the moors. The rustic kitchen is well equipped for all your culinary needs, while the dining table seats two comfortably, perfect for intimate suppers or planning tomorrow’s adventures. Outside, the enclosed courtyard is a rare gem in such a central location, offering a tranquil spot to enjoy your morning coffee or wind down with a drink as the sun sets. Upstairs, via a staircase that’s narrow in parts and therefore not suitable for guests with limited mobility, you’ll find a charming reading nook with a fold-down desk, ideal for writing or working while travelling. There’s also a shower room and a beamed double bedroom with original floorboards, adding to the cottage’s unique character. The nearby town of Okehampton offers a range of shops, pubs, and restaurants, and lies within easy reach of the cottage. Dartmoor National Park is yours to explore, renowned for its rugged beauty, peaceful villages, and abundant wildlife. Discover the historic Okehampton Castle, one of the oldest stone castles in England, and the fascinating Castle Drogo – the last stately home built in Britain – perched over a stunning river valley. A little further afield, the cathedral city of Exeter is well worth a visit – why not park and ride at the newly reopened Okehampton station and let the popular Dartmoor line take the strain. Meanwhile for sea lovers, the surf-friendly beaches of Bude are only 40 minutes’ drive away. Carpenter’s Cottage is a charming base for those looking to unwind and explore the beautiful north Devon countryside.
