    More Information

Bedale 3.2 miles. Catherine Parr’s Sewing Room is situated inside one of the castles’ front towers built by Sir Thomas Cecil. This romantic retreat is set on the picture-perfect grounds of the Grade I-listed, 14th-century Snape Castle in Snape near Bedale, North Yorkshire. Once used as a sewing room by Catherine Parr herself, this apartment is just a short walk from a traditional pub and a quaint river, adding to the serenity of this historic retreat. On arrival, ample off-road parking greets you, before stepping through a large oak door framed by the original ornate stone surround. Ascend the original 14th-century oak spiral staircase to your charming getaway. Pick which armchair will be yours in the sitting area as you become accustomed to your home-from-home. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you could need to rustle up intimate dinners for your loved one, with its original Tudor plaster ceiling creating a characterful backdrop. From here, the living space, formerly Catherine Parr’s private sewing room, is home to centuries-old broad oak flooring, with thick, ancient walls housing three deep-set windows overlooking the walled courtyard, castle gardens and the meadowland landscape. An ornamental stove adds yet more history to the room, whilst Harris Tweed lounge chairs, a Smart TV and an Amazon Alexa provide contemporary comforts for an enjoyable stay. The romantic bedroom hosts a double bed on an oak floor adorned with antique rugs, antique furniture and paintings, with colours in the room reflecting the Tudor love of golds, reds and rich greens. After dinner, enjoy a refreshing drink or two as you appreciate the surroundings of Snape Castle. An enclosed inner courtyard with south-facing castle gardens, furniture and a barbecue make a tranquil space to enjoy milder evenings, with mediaeval stone walls and countryside views. Let the sunset make for the perfect backdrop over the grounds before the stars come out to twinkle. When sleep calls, soak in the bath or a warm shower before jumping into the double bed for some rest and rejuvenation. Escape with your loved one to the historic Catherine Parrs Sewing Room. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 1155303 and 1173907, together sleeping up to eight guests.
