Cliffe Cottage is a stone-built agricultural cottage resting in the centre of Old Brotton village, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, originally part of the Brotton Hall estate and dating back to around 1850, now thoughtfully modernised throughout. This two-bedroom retreat is ideal for couples or small families looking to explore the North York Moors and nearby coast, with a beach and amenities close by, offering a homely base for adventures. Step inside to discover a welcoming sitting room, sink into the soft seating and unwind with your favourite series on the TV with Roku, or gather around the dining table in the kitchen/diner to share stories over a home-cooked meal prepared using the electric oven, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, and Tassimo coffee machine. Upstairs, a bathroom with shower over, basin and WC serves two bedrooms, each offering a peaceful place to rest after a day of exploring. Outside, the communal rear yard provides a quiet spot to enjoy a morning coffee on the bench seat, while roadside parking ensures easy access for day trips A short scenic stroll through the golf course leads you directly onto the Cleveland Way National Trail and the breathtaking North East coastline, making it an excellent choice for walkers. The express coastal bus service runs through the village, offering straightforward access to Saltburn, Staithes, Runswick Bay, Sandsend, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and even Scarborough, while the stunning North Yorkshire Moors National Park is also within easy reach. You’ll find shops, takeaways and friendly local pubs close by, giving you everything you need right on your doorstep. Saltburn-by-the-Sea is the jewel of the coastline and just a short drive away, offering a perfect mix of heritage and seaside charm. Start your visit with a stroll along the iconic Victorian pier, then take a ride on the historic cliff lift – the oldest water-powered funicular in Britain – for sweeping views of the bay. Wander through the elegant Italian Gardens in the Valley Gardens, a tranquil spot for nature lovers, or head to the beach for surfing and paddleboarding, with local surf schools ready to help beginners catch their first wave. Explore the town’s independent shops and galleries, and don’t miss the vibrant food scene, from cosy cafés to restaurants serving locally sourced produce. Further afield, the fishing village of Staithes invites you to wander its winding alleys, visit the Captain Cook & Staithes Heritage Centre, and enjoy fresh seafood at one of its harbourside eateries. For a day of culture and coastal charm, head to Whitby, where you can climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey, browse the quirky shops along Church Street, and indulge in fish and chips with a view of the harbour. Cliffe Cottage is a delightful base for discovering the rugged beauty of North Yorkshire’s coastline and countryside.
