As you would expect from a cottage of this age and style, some ducking of heads may be required for the party's taller (5'7+) members downstairs kitchen, sitting room, and doorways.

Nestled in the heart of Cornwall’s Roseland, Crotchet Cottage is a charming double-fronted retreat set at the end of an attractive row of mixed thatched and slate-roofed dwellings, adjacent to a working farm. Its setting offers a sense of timeless rural character peaceful, welcoming, and surrounded by the natural beauty that defines this special corner of Cornwall.
Crotchet Cottage sits in the pretty rural hamlet of Bohortha, just a few minutes’ walk from the dog-friendly sandy beach at Porthbeor, almost at the tip of St Anthony’s Head. Currently, Porthbeor beach is not accessible due to landslides rendering the cliffs unstable; however, Towan beach a relatively secluded shingle and sand beach is only a short drive away or, better still, reached via a stunning walk across the cliffs.
Owned by the National Trust, this dog-friendly beach offers a car park and easy access along a sloping path. Just remember to bring your National Trust membership cards with you to park free of charge.
The nearby village of Gerrans, just a couple of miles away, features a welcoming pub and is perhaps best known for its ancient church, St Gerrans.
The local area around Crotchet Cottage is rich with beautiful coastal and rural walks, and the pretty coastal fishing village of Portscatho lies just 3 miles away. Here you’ll find a selection of pubs, cafés and shops (some seasonal) to cater for your holiday needs, along with a beach of rock and sand. The cliff-top walk to Portscatho is a wonderful way to build an appetite, and the Plume of Feathers pub is a firm favourite with walkers. A little further beyond sits the famous Hidden Hut café.
St Mawes is just a 7-mile drive from Crotchet Cottage and is well worth a visit. From there, you can catch the foot ferry across to Falmouth a scenic crossing that operates year-round with frequent sailings between the two destinations.
There are open plan gardens to the front and service areas to the rear but each has its own spacious main garden reached by a few steps at the further end of the row about 75 yards away. Crotchet has a large lawn with drying area and garden furniture provided.
Directly opposite the cottage front door is a useful shed/outbuilding which the owners are happy for guests to use.
You’re never far from the water on a holiday in Portscatho, a pretty Cornish fishing village on the popular Roseland Peninsula in West Cornwall. Wander through the narrow streets lined with cottages, pubs, cafes and galleries down to the bay to watch the fishermen haul in their catch, to swim or paddleboard in the safe clear waters or simply to take in the fabulous sea views from the sandy beach.
In Portscatho you’re perfectly placed to explore this beautiful corner of Cornwall, the South West Coast Path runs through the village with fabulous coastal walks in both directions, heading north and a short walk finds you at Porthcurnick Beach, home to the famous Hidden Hut Cafe or head south for more gorgeous coastal vistas and pretty coves. Or a short drive finds you in the picturesque harbour town of St Mawes which sits at the head of the Fal Estuary and where you’ll find excellent seafood restaurants, shops, watersports and the ferry to Falmouth.
Tucked to one side of a large farmhouse the cottages are reached from an unmade track (where there is room to park) and a short path which leads to a wall and gate at the end of the row.
