More information

John O Groats 6.7 miles. Duart At The Sea is a charming annex property situated in Auckengill, near John O Groats, in the Highlands.

Right across the coast of the North Sea and offering stunning, uninterrupted sea views, this property sleeps four and is perfect for small groups looking to escape to an idyllic coastal retreat.

Enter into a large hallway where bookworms can pick their holiday read from the library, then head to the open-plan living space and kick their feet up to read on the plush sofas while the rest of the group watches TV in the background. The fully-equipped kitchen and dining area allow you to sit around the table together to share a meal followed by an intense session of board games. After a long day out, take a steaming shower or sink into a bath in the spacious bathroom, then head to the bedroom where you’ll be able to watch the sun set below the waves.

A short drive away you can have a hearty meal at The Village Inn pub, or pack your food and head over to Nybster Broch where you can sip on your tea as you watch the waves crash on the harbour and have a wonder through the ruins of the ancient settlement. In the nearby town of Wick, take a large step through Ebenezer Place, the world’s shortest street (only 2.06m long!), before heading over to Old Pulteney Distillery with its tours offering both a fascinating insight into the workings of Pulteney Distillery and an opportunity to taste their range of single malt whiskies. If you haven’t quite had enough of stunning landscapes and sea views, make your way to Castle Sinclair Girnigoe. Historians will enjoy a trip to Thurso with its hive of lovely traditional shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, the North Coast Visitor Centre and the exhibitions in its museum, as well as the ruins of Old St Peter’s Church.
