It goes without saying that you are in premium walking territory here. The central Lakeland fells wrap themselves around you, and walking routes are easy to find from your doorstep. Helm Crag, locally known as the Lion and the Lamb, looms appealingly above the village, and Fairfield Horseshoe, from which your cottage takes its name, is right behind you.
Grasmere is rich in history, and you will certainly want to visit Dove Cottage, Wordsworth’s primary residence here, and his grave at the rustic St. Oswald’s church, not to mention the many art galleries that dot the streets. The welcoming pubs, restaurants and tearooms of the little village will keep you well fed and watered, and there is so much to do during your holiday, with busy Ambleside just a few miles away and Keswick a short drive to the north.
