More information

Hawthorne cottage is centrally situated in the traditional village of Cotherstone in beautiful Teesdale, and within easy reach of both the North Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, an ideal base for a family or couple. Like the rest of the village it is constructed of stone and slate and behind the red door it has been completely renovated to a high standard, but retaining many of the original features. You will be greeted by a warm and welcoming sitting room where you can relax and watch programmes of your choice on the smart television. Continue through to the dining room with its stone flagged floor and Inglenook fireplace, where you can curl up in a comfortable armchair in front of the log burning stove. Beyond is a modern fully equipped kitchen with patio doors leading into the sun trap garden. The ground floor shower room sports a large shower enclosure with plenty of elbow room. The stairs lead from the corner of the dining room up to 2 charmingly furnished and decorated bedrooms, a double and a twin with an upstairs shower room, again with roomy shower enclosure. Once you have settled in you can plan your holiday, if you are walkers Cotherstone is situated in the network of footpath’s extending over the whole Dale and the Tees Valley Railway walk goes from Barnard Castle to Middleton in Teesdale. Further afield is the Pennine Way and the Durham Heritage Coast and Lake District are only an hours drive away ( in opposite directions obviously). Barnard Castle has of course the castle, a great range of shops especially antique shops and don’t miss it’s Piece de resistance, the wonderful Bowes Museum with exhibits to interest all ages. Raby Castle is one of the finest medieval castles in England, still occupied by Lord and Lady Barnard and where you can take a fascinating tour and enjoy the restaurant and Deer park.
