Whitby 3.3 miles. Holly Cottage is a charming stone-built grade II listed retreat set within the rural landscape of Aislaby near Whitby. With a friendly local pub close at hand, scenic walks through the North York Moors National Park, and easy access to the coast, it offers an appealing base for couples or families eager to discover North Yorkshire’s many delights. On arrival, park up and admire the attractive stone exterior before stepping into the front garden, a lovely spot for sunny picnics. To the rear, a handy courtyard provides useful area along with an outside tap to wash the dog.
Inside, the contemporary kitchen is well-equipped, inviting guests to prepare home-cooked meals to enjoy in the welcoming garden or sitting/dining room. This cosy space features plush seating and a warm woodburning stove, perfect for unwinding in the evening and chatting over the day’s adventures. When it’s time to rest, rinse off in the ground-floor shower room, then settle into one of two thoughtfully presented bedrooms: a king size with its own en-suite shower room, or a spacious L shaped twin room.

Aislaby itself boasts a friendly pub called ‘The Forge’ ideal for relaxed drinks in the sunshine. From here, venture into Whitby to browse an eclectic mix of shops, eateries, bookshops, vintage stores, and fossil shops. Enjoy walking to Whitby Abbey reached by the famous 199 steps. Visit the iconic Whalebone Arch which is located at the top of the West Cliff for coastal views, stroll the pier, or wander the picturesque harbour and sandy beach. Fans of history and literature will love Whitby Abbey, dramatic, atmospheric, and famously linked to Dracula. The Cinder Track also offers a scenic walking / cycling route through the countryside all the way to Scarborough, where museums, arcades, and a historic castle await.
With the North York Moors National Park within easy reach, nature lovers can enjoy a wealth of walking trails, wildlife and the North Yorkshire Moors railway in the nearby village of Grosmont.
