A mile away, the village of Gilwern has a few convenience stores and access to the wonderful walks along the Brecon – Monmouthshire canal, with canal boat hire companies offering opportunities to explore by water as far as the historic town of Brecon. With two National Trails and a National Park, the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) is the ultimate walking and thinking country. Avid walkers and adventurers can spend their time exploring and enjoying the abundance of hiking, cycling, rock climbing, bird watching and pony trekking opportunities the Beacons provide. World renowned cultural events including the Hay Festival, Green Man, How The Light Gets In, and the Abergavenny Food Festival take place in the area.
