    More Information

Kestorway is three miles from Chagford and is situated on the side of the wooded Teign Gorge on the Moor itself (just below Kestor Rock). Built in 1923 as a guest house, tea rooms and sweetshop, the house has an interesting history, serving at various times as a writer’s retreat with connections to Agatha Christie, film makers, the satirist Peter Cook and was for a period used as a hunting and fishing lodge. The annex is adjoined to the main house and is very light and airy and completely self-contained with its own entrance and parking space along with a turning area. The property is approached via 70 yards of gravel track and to access the annex there are three wide steps and a lawn to walk across which leads to your front door. The views from the property are spectacular and because of its location it is possible to walk straight onto the Moor making it the ideal property for those who love walking and who have a wish to explore surrounding Neolithic and Bronze Age settlement. Inside is warm and inviting; relax in comfy chairs and take in the scenery whilst listening to the gentle crackle of the wood burning stove. The fitted kitchen has everything you’ll need and a dining area with garden views. From here step out into the comfortably furnished sunroom overlooking the garden and those glorious views to the West. The pretty double bedroom also enjoys super views and is a lovely space to retire to at the end of a day’s walking. The well kept garden surrounds the whole house, and family and friends are welcome to camp on site, by arrangement (extra). A fantastic place for walkers or for simply wandering Dartmoor’s valleys and tors to soak up the spectacular views and peace. The open moor starts at the front gate, so you can leave your car, don your walking boots and head out. The popular town of Chagford is nearby, here there are interesting little shops and a selection of good food pubs for a hearty lunch. A little further afield the historic cathedral city of Exeter, has plenty of amenities and lots to see and do.
