Mosslea is an excellent choice if you’d prefer not to drive during your Lake District holiday. Stroll to Bowness Pier and take a steamer cruise to Ambleside or Lakeside or hop on one of the Lake District bus tours departing in the village centre. Bowness is a delightful Lakeland village, on the eastern shores of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake. The village has a contemporary shopping street with everything you could need during your self-catering holiday in the Lake District. Tesco supermarket, tempting delicatessens and boutique gift shops. Hire boats come and go in Bowness Bay, swans wander freely on the lake shore, and yachts can be seen racing from the Royal Windermere Yacht Club. The famous Lake Windermere steamers depart regularly from Bowness Pier, providing a very scenic car-free route to both Ambleside and Lakeside. Windermere Golf Club is just outside Bowness, on the way towards Crook and the Lyth and Winster Valleys with some excellent and award-winning country pubs to choose from. Try the Punch Bowl, The Black Labrador, the Mason’s Arms, or the Brown Horse or the Hare and Hounds. You’ll be spoilt for choice!
