In Builth Wells, just a 10-minute drive away is the RWAS showground, home of the Royal Welsh Show, hosting other big public events all-year-round. The highlights are the Spring Festival held in May for smallholding, gardening and sustainable living enthusiasts and the Winter Fair, held in December which features livestock displays and a huge Christmas market. Hay-on-Wye is a 20 minute drive in the opposite direction which features historic sites, mountainous walks and many shops to visit.
