The local area

The big sister to East Wellow, West Wellow is a flourishing village bordering The New Forest national Park. There are a selection of shops and amenities for everyday supplies, including a Chemist, Post Office and a petrol station. The Rockingham Arms is a wonderful pub with a fine reputation for food, well-kept ale and lovely wine. The pub also has a gorgeous shop, selling an eclectic and unusual mix of tempting gifts. Carlo’s Ice Cream parlour and cafe between East Wellow and West Wellow, is worth seeking out for amazing ice cream and scrumptious home-made food.

The village has a Cricket Pavilion, Tennis Club, Football club, Recreation Ground and busy Church Village Hall with a year-round calendar of events. Fishing in this region is superb. Headlands Farm Coarse Fishery in West Wellow has a good reputation and a few miles on in East Wellow, you’ll find Whinwhistle Coarse Fishery and next door, Woodington Trout Fishery which has a café for wholesome snacks and hearty breakfasts.

The river Blackwater and surrounding ancient woodland to the north of the village is an amazing location for wildlife – Otters, Herons, Buzzards, Kingfishers, Roe and Fallow deer, Badgers, Rabbits and Foxes are often sighted here.
