Sandsgate House has spectacular views across the Moor and over to Drogo Castle and is ideal for large families; special occasions and groups of friends. Sandsgate is perfect for a variety of holidays or workshops and we also welcome smaller groups – please enquire. Two well behaved dogs are welcome (3 by arrangement) but are not allowed upstairs. This stunning and very comfortable detached property has been owned by the same family for more than 60 years and really is ‘a home away from home’. Approached via a long private driveway, the house is set in 18 acres of natural grounds with lawns, ancient forest, and a prehistoric stone circle and standing stones. Set high up, views from the bedrooms and main areas across the Teign Valley are breath-taking. Three sets of double doors open onto a vast patio that spans the entire length of the house which features a dining table and chairs, a large charcoal barbeque and seating area with sofas and comfy cushions – all have parasols. The large sitting room area includes an open fireplace, plush sofas and armchairs, with a reading area, a smart TV and DVD and a separate home office with printer. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. The spacious, open plan fully fitted kitchen is a great place to meet up. Guests can prepare meals, chatting to friends with family lounging in the ‘snug’ area or watching TV, while the children explore the toy cupboard! The large dining table is the perfect place for those long, relaxed family meals and to raise a glass to your holiday! We can supply names of local caterers if needed. There is a utility room with 2x washing machines and 2x tumble dryers. There is also an extra fridge and a chest freezer for supplies. Here you can wash and dry your boots and outdoor clothing after exploring the local countryside. The Hall features ample hooks and a shoe rack for storage. Stairs from the hall lead to the Games Room with a large TV – a big hit with guests challenging each other to table football or pool tournaments. The games room links to the sunroom and balcony of the huge master bedroom, where you can sit with an evening drink and gaze over towards Castle Drogo and the Moor. This bedroom has a large en-suite bathroom. Also on this floor are three further comfortable bedrooms and two shower rooms – one with a jacuzzi bath! All bedrooms have TVs. The two largest bedrooms have 2 x 4ft beds, which when pushed together make a huge 8ft space! The versatility of the bedrooms means we can accommodate and make welcome, a variety of different groups. The second floor has two huge bedrooms under the eaves that share a bathroom. Whether you are an ardent rambler, wild swimmer or you simply want to enjoy the beauty of this stunning area of Devon, there are plenty of activities to be found nearby in the huge open expanses of Dartmoor.
