This detached Grade II listed stone cottage, formerly a pair of lead miners dwellings, is the oldest cottage (c.1615) in the village of Brassington, tucked away in a wonderfully peaceful location on the fringes of the Peak District National Park. With versatile sleeping arrangements, the recently refurbished accommodation is equally ideal for friends, couples or families. Approach the cottage through the fully enclosed pretty terraced garden and enter the well-equipped kitchen. Across the corridor is a well-appointed modern shower room. In the evening, you can look forward to socialising in the beamed sitting room or simply closing the shutters on the mullioned windows and relaxing with a good book in front of the cosy wood burner. For a change of scenery, the spacious dining room with sitting area is perfect for enjoying your favourite meals or sinking into an armchair in front of another wood-burning stove. Upstairs, the twin bedroom has ample hanging and drawer space and tastefully co-ordinated decoration. The large king-size double bedroom, with further mullioned windows, has a day bed for a third person as well as a travel cot. A spacious and characterful beamed family bathroom completes the accommodation. The garden is set on three levels, with wooden dining furniture (and barbecue), an arbour with seating and a top sun terrace with views towards the hills. Brassington is an unspoilt conservation village perched on a hillside on the edge of the Peak District National Park, in the midst of open countryside, very close to the Limestone Way and to the High Peak Trail for cyclists. One of the two welcoming pubs, Ye Olde Gate Inn, was the Times’ cosiest pub in Britain and the Independent’s 2017 unspoilt pub of the year. The attractive market towns of Wirksworth, Ashbourne, Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton are all within thirty minutes, as are historic houses such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. Close by is beautiful Carsington Water, covering 750 acres, with some of the best sailing in the country. The site also offers boating, biking and windsurfing, along with shops, a restaurant and a childrens adventure playground. There is something for everyone in all seasons in this delightful location.
