An area popular with walkers, the South West Coastal Footpath takes a route along the Jurassic Coast and enjoys breath-taking coastal views including Golden Cap and Portland on a clear day. The beaches in Dorset are a paradise with fossil hunters, and you can learn all about the area’s rich geological history at the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre, located on the seafront before trying to find your own ammonites hidden on the shorelines. For a day out, the pretty fishing village of Beer is a great choice with its limestone cliffs and beach, where it is easy to lose a few hours sitting in a deckchair watching the local fishermen hauling their catches ashore.
