The Coach House is a historic pet-friendly holiday cottage resting on the outskirts of the vibrant city of Glasgow, Lanarkshire. Suited to families or friends seeking a serene escape with five acres of landscaped grounds, plenty to discover without venturing far, and proximity to local amenities. Found peacefully nestled within the grounds of the National Trust for Scotland’s impressive Holmwood, designed by architect Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson in 1858, offering a peaceful parkland setting within the historic estate that feels quietly removed from the pace of everyday life. Originally used as a stable, with accommodation for the coachman and his family, The Coach House now offers a family of five memorable holiday accommodation set within a quiet National Trust for Scotland’s estate, where days can be spent lingering in the surrounding parkland, wandering five acres of mature gardens, and following woodland and riverside walks that unfold directly from the grounds, all while remaining within easy reach of Glasgow when the mood takes you. Approaching the cottage, the characterful stone exterior of The Coach House reveals its former life before pulling up outside, where the calm surroundings immediately define the experience, before venturing up the staircase to the first floor to enter. Enter into the lovely living/dining room, where the glow of the electric fire draws you in, settling naturally into the sofa or armchairs around the central rug, the TV ready for an easy evening as warm coral-toned walls, wooden flooring and framed artwork quietly shape the space, while the dining table sits close by for board games or relaxed homemade meals. The welcoming, amply‑equipped kitchen provides all you could need for a week‑long stay, where mornings begin by setting the kettle on and easing into the day, the homely cream fixtures lending the space a relaxed, comforting feel. The first floor is also home to the family bathroom, hosting a bath and a shower over, so you can choose how best to unwind after a day of adventure spent exploring the estate or nearby walking routes, with serene pink wall tiles around the bath softening the space. While down on the ground floor you can find a convenient cloakroom, finished in gentle green hues. When it is time to rest, you will also find a beautifully presented double bedroom, where calming neutral hues frame views across the surrounding parkland, settling into bespoke furnishings with artwork lining the walls and stylish, vibrant soft furnishings adding personality to the space, alongside a twin bedroom and single bedroom, each continuing the same thoughtful, individual feel through bespoke pieces, artwork and carefully chosen textiles. Begin your mornings exploring the grounds to discover a charming vegetable garden, where you can purchase fresh vegetables for all of your homemade meals, adding to the sense of staying somewhere special and rooted in its setting, with the wider estate offering plenty to fill the day, from wandering the surrounding parkland to following nearby woodland paths and gentle riverside walks without needing to venture off. Holmwood is considered an architectural marvel, described as Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson’s domestic masterpiece, and offers plenty to see and do at any time of year, enhancing the experience of staying within a historic National Trust for Scotland’s estate. Just a stone’s throw from the cottage, you can find a host of wonderful amenities, including shops and eateries for all of your culinary needs, ensuring the quiet setting never feels isolated, while the bustling city centre of Glasgow will present you with a further array of amenities and attractions. A spectacular port city best known for its Victorian and art nouveau architecture, as well as being home to the Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and National Theatre of Scotland, Glasgow boasts a vibrant cultural scene, providing a striking contrast to the calm of Holmwood’s grounds. For an educational day out, explore the variety of museums scattered around the city, including the Glasgow Science Centre, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and Hunterian Zoology Museum, or enjoy a day outdoors amidst the scenic splendour of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, with plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, climbing, sailing, horse riding and so much more, it’s a must see to experience its awe-inspiring views.
