The Hay Loft is an 18th century barn, converted sympathetically to preserve many original features, while creating a luxurious rural hideaway. It nestles in a quiet valley in New Hutton, near the historic market town of Kendal in Cumbria, and is ideally situated for exploring both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. If you can tear yourself away, head to Kendal just 7 minutes by car, with its bustling centre packed with independent shops, cafes and restaurants. There are also a number of supermarkets on the outskirts. The Brewery Arts Centre is a hub for high quality cinema, theatre, and music; along with the newly refurbished Abbott Hall Gallery housing an award-winning art collection. In the opposite direction visit Sedbergh, England’s official book town. There’s plenty of walking in the area, with several walks starting from the door, and the Howgills and local limestone pavements close at hand The more challenging fells are just 25 minutes away by car. It’s also a great area for cycling (if you like hills) and locked bike storage is available in the owner’s garage. Windermere and Ullswater with their famous steamers deserve a visit, As do the attractions of Beatrix Potter and James Herriot. So, escape to The Hay Loft – a wonderful Lakeland retreat, in a fabulous location, whatever the time of year.
