Enjoying the best of both worlds; Timley Knott is a short, scenic walk along a traffic free disused railway line into the village of Coniston (Ship Inn, Sun Inn, village centre all nearby) but also offers immediate access onto footpaths and cycle trails leading down to the lake and up to the fells. Walking up the Old Man of Coniston, Dow Crag, Wetherlam and all the Coniston fells is best done right from the front door of the house.
Coniston itself is home to several shops, cafés, and pubs where you can refuel after a long ramble, plus it has its own brewery producing Bluebird Bitter – well worth a try!
You may wish to escape to the water on a cruise, or if you’d prefer to stay on foot, hike up the Old Man of Coniston and be rewarded with stunning views.
Further afield lies Hawkshead, Ambleside and Windermere, each providing their own attractions and charm.
