Found in the middle of an idyllic orchard on the owner’s farm in the Worcestershire countryside is this wonderful timber lodge, Top Style Orchard. Providing a unique experience for up to six guests, the owners are more than happy to offer an insight into working farm life, with opportunities to meet the animals, collect the eggs and even feed the lambs and baby calves in season! The farm itself is situated half a mile further along the lane from the lodge. Step inside this traditional looking lodge, whether from the front decking or via the rear boot room door, with the latter ideal when you’re coming in from a muddy walk. Once you’ve taken off your coats and boots, head inside to the open-plan living space and discover two large leather sofas to kick back on, with a TV and a little electric stove-effect fire adding a homely touch. Move across the wooden floor to the kitchen area in the corner, boasting an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, it’s amply equipped for rustling up some delicious dishes. A fold-out dining table rests near the wall, so you can maximise the space when you need to but still enjoy family gatherings around the table discussing the day’s fun as you tuck into your meal. Each of the three bedrooms benefits from fitted wardrobes and simple, bright décor, along with two single zip/link beds. The master bedroom features a king-size bed configuration and an en-suite shower room, while the other two are made up into twins and served by the shared shower room, however alternate bed layouts can be requested prior to your stay to accommodate your group. Wake up to breakfast alfresco on your private decking with furniture to relax on as you soak up the pretty orchard scenery, before meeting up with the owner’s to experience a tour around the farm. Enjoy seeing the inner-workings of working farm life, meeting the animals with the farm home to beef cattle, sheep and free-range chickens, and if you’re visiting in lambing season you might be lucky enough to feed some little lambs! The centre of the village is just a few miles down the road where you’ll find a local shop selling fruit, vegetables and essentials, and a village Post Office along with a park. There are two local farm shops with butchery and delicatessen counters selling local farm produce. An up to date list of recommended local pubs and restaurants will be provided at the time of your stay. The surrounding area is scattered with interesting attractions, one of which is Witley Court and Gardens, a lavish ruined mansion positioned within landscaped, formal gardens where you can discover the stories behind the people who lived and partied there and find your way through enchanting woodland and marvel at the large stone fountains. There are several National Trust properties nearby including Elgar’s Birthplace, Hanbury Hall and Croome Court. The West Midland Safari Park and the Severn Valley Railway are also less than an hour’s drive away. Keen walkers can pick up footpaths or bridle paths from the lodge or go slightly further to join the Severn Way or the Northwick Heritage Trail, both running parallel to the river and presenting you with beautiful waterside scenery as well as ample opportunities for wildlife spotting too. The nearest local nature reserve is Monkwood which is a SSSI and a haven for butterflies in the summer months offering a multitude of woodland walks. Get dressed up for a day at the races at Worcester Racecourse, the home of summer jump racing and host to 21 fixtures throughout the year. Head into the centre of Worcester and visit the beautiful Worcester Cathedral, a medieval building home to King John’s tomb and the perfect starting point for your exploration of this historic city where you can expect to see old timber framed buildings and flourishes of greenery throughout.
