Walkers will delight in the many footpaths leading from the village, while a must for cyclists is nearby Dalby Forest, with numerous biking trails and adventure centre. Two miles away is the bustling market town of Pickering, with its castle, museums and the terminus of the renowned North York Moors Steam Railway, which winds its way through the heather-clad moors to Grosmont, a wonderful day out for both young and old. If you fancy a day on the coast, the seaside towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Filey are all within a forty-five minute drive. With many local attractions, including Duncombe Park, Castle Howard, Rievaulx Abbey and the historic city of York, this well-placed Thornton-le-Dale holiday home provides an excellent base, any time of the year.
