More information

A freshly converted apartment within the old ‘White Swan’ pub, right at the foot of the old bridge and overlooking the castle across the River Tees. On the first floor of this beautiful and spectacularly situated old building, 2 Riverside is a delightful and modern retreat and a perfect location from which to explore the many attractions of Barnard Castle. The views to the rear of this building are superb, taking in the famous River Tees, the ancient bridge at the foot of the castle walls, dating from 1569 and the 12th century castle. After a day exploring the town and the wonderful countryside of Teesdale there is no nicer place to relax. Take in the scenery from the open-plan living area, a wonderful modernised layout, divided between a lounge/diner and a well-equipped kitchen, or discover the bedrooms where you can wake up to the charm-filled surroundings every day that goes by. Barnard Castle is a real gem; the nearby Bowes Museum has a world-class collection of European art and textiles whilst the town itself is a colourful and lively place where interesting local shops jostle for space along the ancient roads. High Force is down the road, Bowes Castle just four miles away, Witham Hall nestles in the centre of town and Eggleston Abbey sits on the banks of the river. Further afield are the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the beautiful Dales towns of Richmond and Ripon and of course Durham. A one-of-a-kind retreat in an enticing part of the country.
