Set in an elevated position with views to the front and back, Choughs is a real favourite for guests wanting to experience this fabulous area but enjoy the peace and quiet that Bodinnick-by-Fowey offers.

This spacious bungalow provides very comfortable accommodation and is set out across one level.

In Bodinnick, the passenger and car ferry operates across the water (every 15 minutes from early morning to mid evening) to nearby Fowey so you can have a mooch around the wonderful selection of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. The nearby beaches to Fowey including Readymoney Cove and Polkerris beach are well worth a visit.

Within walking distance from Choughs at the bottom of the hill in Bodinnick is Penmarlam Quay Cafe. This fabulous little riverside cafe serves breakfast, lunch, evening meals 7 days a week and is licenced too! A lovely, peaceful place to while away a few hours by the water.

Staying on the Bodinnick side of the water you can visit the hillside village of Polruan which is much smaller than Fowey but still has a couple of terrific pubs, shops and cafes to enjoy as well as its lovely quay and small beach.

Also on the Bodinnick side of the water, are the nearby National Trust owned beaches Lantic Bay and Lansallos. Both these dog friendly beaches are a mix of shingle and sand and provide few facilities between them but, what they do offer, is heaps of relative calm even at the busier times of year and are known especially for their turquoise waters. These beaches are free to park if you are a National Trust member with membership card or you can pay by the standard pay and display option.

Sticking with the National Trust, there is a terrific, 4 mile walk called the Fowey Hall walk that starts from the slipway in Bodinnick and takes you right around to Fowey via Polruan and the passenger ferry from Polruan to Fowey.

Outside

To the front there is a raised, sunny decked area with furniture and to the rear, a partially enclosed lawn garden (please see photographs for suitability for your dog), with patio, furniture and charcoal barbecue.

The local area

Fowey (pronounced “Foy”) is an inviting waterside town steeped in history. It stretches for a mile or so along the banks of the River Fowey and is a magnet for sailing enthusiasts. This vibrant place is a real joy to explore; whether you want to shop, sail, go to the beach, walk the South West Coast Path or simply watch the world go by whilst enjoying a pint.

Literary fanatics will be familiar with Fowey as it is synonymous with Daphne du Maurier. The author (famous for novels including Rebecca and Jamaica Inn) moved to the town with her family aged 20 and soon began writing short stories. A few years later, her first novel was published and she continued as a successful writer inspired by Fowey and the surrounding Cornish landscape.

Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Fowey enjoys fantastic views across the water to Polruan. It also has a sheltered, family friendly beach at Readymoney Cove from which you can walk to St Catherine’s Castle, which is the remains of a small fort built during Henry VIII’s reign to defend the harbour entrance.

There’s never a shortage of things to see and do in the town, with annual events such as the Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature in early May, and the Regatta in late August, both being colourful and lively events worth adding to your calendar.

A holiday cottage in Fowey really is a fantastic base for an escape to Cornwall, with plenty to see and do, plus a great choice of places to eat. And if you fancy venturing out of the town, why not take the ferry across the river to Bodinnick and drive on to the idyllic fishing village of Polperro, or the family and dog-friendly beaches at Talland Bay.

Parking

There is driveway parking space for one small to medium sized car. Further parking if required is available on the road.
