Although you are in the centre of Ambleside, just a short walk from High Ridge takes you to the pretty Rothay Park with superb views across the River Rothay to Loughrigg. Why not walk along the valley to the pretty hamlet of Rydal and Rydal Mount, the home of William Wordsworth? From here you can pick up the ‘coffin trail and follow this ancient route along to Grasmere and then return via Loughrigg back to High Ridge to enjoy a delicious evening meal in one of the many excellent restaurants that can be found in Ambleside. At any time of year, a cruise from Waterhead up Lake Windermere on the Windermere Steamer is a delightful way to appreciate this magnificent landscape. Stop off at Bowness-on-Windermere or continue down to Lakeside and visit the Aquarium of the Lakes.
