Set in an attractive white washed terrace of former 1850's Coastguard cottages, Lobster Pot is tucked away against the cliff side in the older part of Portloe and benefits from an enclosed front garden which overlooks the valley and village as well as an elevated clifftop terrace with seating (accessed via a couple of flights of steps) with lovely views out to sea.

Lobster Pot is an ideal base for keen walkers with the South West Coast Path passing through the village. The historic fishing village of Portloe has a pub, and the Lugger Hotel located down on the slipway, welcomes non-residents to dine (subject to availability – booking advisable).

The village of Veryan, famous for its round houses, is just a couple of miles away, and here you will find the cutest village store and post office, conveniently open seven days a week to pick up your daily holiday essentials.

St Mawes, with its glorious castle, is a twenty-minute drive from Portloe. A passenger ferry from St Mawes to Falmouth operates throughout the year, and Falmouth is well worth a visit, with this popular maritime town being home to the world-renowned National Maritime Museum.

Beaches around the Roseland Peninsula, such as Pendower and Carne (even during the summer months) remain relatively uncrowded. The pretty villages of Portscatho, Gorran Haven and Mevagissey are all located along the Peninsula and are within a 30-minute drive of Portloe.

Outside

There is a pretty lawned garden (partially enclosed) to the front plus a terrific clifftop terrace (accessed by a number of stone steps) with barbecue and garden furniture at the rear of the property.

The local area

Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Portloe is a real gem. A beautiful, tiny Cornish fishing village nestled in a steep valley on the western side of Veryan Bay, holidays in Portloe offer you the ideal base from which to explore the wonderful sites of south Cornwall.

Portloe’s stunning scenery has featured in many films and TV dramas, and with its handful of tiny cottages lining the steep streets running down to the harbour, turquoise waters and steep sided cliffs, it’s easy to see why. You’ll find most things you need during your holiday in the village including a post office and village store, as well as two good pubs, the 17th century Lugger Hotel at the top of the slipway and further up the hill the Ship Inn, both serving good food.

When it comes to beaches, holidaymakers based in Portloe have plenty of choice. Stunning Carne Beach is just three miles away, while the picturesque cove of Portholland and Caerhays Castle, gardens and beach are only a ten minute drive to the east. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are also nearby with over 80 acres of superb grounds made up of walled gardens and a huge vegetable garden. And just a few miles north of Portloe is Trewithen, one of the loveliest gardens in England and well worth a visit.

Portloe is surrounded by cliffs and headlands which form an idyllic stretch of the South West Coast Path, and there are excellent walks to the east and west, along with numerous walks inland on pretty footpaths and quiet country lanes.

Venturing a little further afield, St Mawes, with its 16 century castle built by Henry V111 to protect the Fal estuary, is a short drive away and from here you can take the ferry to historic Falmouth where you’ll find a host of shops, restaurants and attractions including the National Maritime Museum. A short hop inland by car brings you to Truro which offers visitors a wealth of things to do throughout the year, including the Royal Cornwall Museum and a beautiful cathedral completed in 1910, markets, carnivals, shopping and much more.

Explore one of Cornwall’s most unspoilt fishing villages and a spectacularly beautiful stretch of the south coast when you choose a holiday in Portloe.
