The Fowey River tidal estuary has moored local boats. At low tide sand banks are revealed which are safe and popular with children who play there in the summer months. Crabbing from the small stone quay is also popular with children and their parents. On Golant’s village green there’s a designated play area for children. Kyaking and small boat hire is also popular, with Fowey just 2 miles downstream to the open sea. There are many great coastal walks, too, and good sandy beaches such as Par Sands, Polkerris, and Lantic Bay. For a longer day out, many visitors enjoy taking the ferry from Fowey to Mevagissy, or to Polruan. To stock up on your provisions, there are supermarkets some 6-7 miles from Golant near St Austell – Tesco, Asda, Lidl, Aldi, etc. Fowey also has shops selling local produce.
