The bustling town of Penrith lies south west and is a wonderful day out for visiting the ruins of Penrith Castle, surrounded by a grassy meadow for picnics in the sunshine, or simply wander its attractive, historic streets busy with specialised shops and discover local history at the Penrith and Eden Museum. On your way into the Lake District, be sure to stop at Pooley Bridge, sitting on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater; fuel up at a quaint lakeside tearoom, take the walking routes to scenic spots such as Dunmallard, or take a lovely cruise along Ullswater to discover the neighbouring villages of Glenridding and Howtown.
