The local area

Tucked away in the North Devon countryside, High Bickington is a small, unspoilt village filled with stone cottages and thatched roofs that offers a peaceful retreat from everyday life. Whether you’re looking for a quiet weekend away to reset and recharge or a base to explore the stunning landscapes of North Devon – from moor to coast, holidays in High Bickington promise relaxation and adventure in equal measure.

High Bickington itself is loved for its authentic rural atmosphere and beautiful views of the Taw Valley. Surrounded by countryside yet within easy reach of North Devon’s famous coast and attractions, it’s great for families, couples, and solo adventurers alike.

Fill you holiday with lots of walks in and around High Bickington. Whether strolling through rolling fields, woodland or quiet country lanes, wellies and walking boots will be less used here. The village makes a great base for a walking holiday, as both Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks are within easy reach, where you can hike past wild ponies and granite tors. For cyclists, the Tarka Trail is also nearby, while keen golfers should head to Libbaton Golf Club, a hidden gem just a mile away from High Bickington offering a scenic and challenging course.

It's also really easy to swap countryside for the coast, with North Devon’s gorgeous beaches just a 30-minute drive away. Choose between Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands or Croyde, and enjoy salty surf sessions, sand castle building and coastal walk.

Back in the village, you’ll find a little post office and two pubs serving drinks, hearty food and a friendly welcome, while for independent shops and farmers’ markets, the nearby towns of Barnstaple and Great Torrington are worth a visit.

With its charming cottages, access to local attractions, and unspoilt atmosphere, High Bickington is a fantastic destination for a North Devon getaway.
