The Old Chapel is positioned upon a leafy quiet lane close to the centre of the charming village of Slapton which is a few minutes from one of the South Hams’ most well known stretches of coastline at Slapton Sands. This former Methodist chapel, dating back to the 1860s, has recently undergone complete refurbishment and now offers light, bright and welcoming holiday accommodation, and it boasts two highly sought after amenities being private parking and a sunny enclosed garden – both of which are rarity in the village. The property’s open plan living area and modern facilities will appeal to both families and couples alike. The village, which has a rich history and is surrounded by unspoilt countryside, has much to offer including a well stocked village shop and two locally renowned pubs. Plesae note, the garden is not entirely enclosed, so small unattended dogs could escape.
The local area
Slapton is a small quaint village just a stone's throw from the outstandingly beautiful stretch of coastline at Slapton Sands, from where you can enjoy sweeping sea views across Start Bay, from the mouth of the river Dart in the north across to the craggy cliffs that curve round to Start Point Lighthouse in the south.
Slapton village is a short stroll from Slapton Sands beach, a 6km stretch of pebble beach, fronted by Start Bay and backed by the stunning Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve – a large freshwater lake separated from the sea by a narrow strip of land, and home to many species of wildlife including otters, eels, dormice and a huge number of birds and insects.
Slapton village itself boasts two pubs, The Tower Inn which is renowned for its excellent food, and The Queen's Arms, which has a pretty garden providing the perfect spot for a refreshing beer, whilst a shop/Post Office, café and more pub/restaurants can be found at nearby Torcross.There are also many wonderful walks in the area – through unspoilt countryside, around the Slapton Ley, and along the spectacular South West Coast Path.
Slightly further along the coastal road towards Dartmouth, you'll find Blackpool Sands, one of the most popular beaches in Devon. Here, the golden sand and shingle beach, green pines cliffs, and turquoise waters conspire to exude an almost Mediterranean feel. This beautiful, family-friendly beach is great for windsurfing, paddle boarding and canoeing, and when hunger strikes, the beach-side Venus Café is a great place to refuel with a view.
The lively market town of Kingsbride is just 7 miles away and offers a good choice of independent shops, cafés and pubs, as well as two supermarkets for stocking up on essentials.
