The Potting Shed is a newly built and beautifully finished holiday home for up to five guests and two dogs. The accommodation is on one level, and is set in a gated courtyard behind Trafalgar Cottage. The Potting Shed can also be booked with the neighbouring Orangery (to sleep 9) and for larger groups, with Trafalgar Cottage (to sleep 17). Approached along a private track, the cottages are surrounded by a walled garden, now a beautiful cut flower garden. The grounds were originally part of Trafalgar Park, which was gifted by the state to Lord Nelson's brother following the Battle of Trafalgar, and some of his descendants lie within Standlynch Chapel, nestled next to the cottage. Just a 2 minute stroll takes you to the banks of the River Avon, with peaceful riverside walks along the gently flowing water.
Inside, the heart of this comfortable holiday home is the sociable open plan living space, which benefits from bi-folding doors opening onto a private decked terrace with picnic bench overlooking the walled gardens. A large corner sofa is arranged around the log burning stove and Smart TV, with the kitchen and dining area overlook the terrace to the side. Two comfortable bedrooms, the master with ensuite shower room, and a family bathroom, complete the accommodation. Outside, the garden is at the front of the cottage, bordered by the old wall and separated from the driveway with open fencing. A rattan table and chair set can be used for relaxed dining.
The Avon Valley Path, which stretches from Salisbury to Christchurch, runs right alongside the cottage, offering beautiful woodland and riverside walks. A circular footpath loop takes you to nearby Downton, the oldest village on the Avon Valley Path, home to a couple of pubs, a café, takeaway and selection of shops. The New Forest National Park, with miles of footpaths and cycle tracks to explore amongst the free-roaming ponies, cattle and donkeys is a short drive away. Other local attractions include Breamore House, the New Forest Water Park and Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve. The city of Salisbury, with its Cathedral, shops and eateries, is just 7 miles away.
The Potting Shed can be booked along with Trafalgar Cottage (sleeping 8), The Orangery (sleeping 4) and or as a whole Trafalgar gardens (sleeping 17).
The garden to the front is fully enclosed and mainly laid to lawn, with a rattan dining set on a paved area under the shade of the ancient wall. A decked terrace leading off of the kitchen/dining area overlooks the walled garden, and is a lovely spot for a morning coffee or evening sundowner! A footpath next to the cottage winds down towards the river, with peaceful walks alongside the water and through the woodland.
