This perfect pad has all you could want whatever the season, theres’ a cosy sofa and log burner in the lounge with views out of the terrace doors, and when the weather warms up the terrace is secluded with super views for enjoying the evening sun and al fresco dining. Hillside Garden Studio is within walking distance of the foot ferry to Salcombe and the famous Gara Rock Resort along with the sandy beaches at East Portlemouth and Millbay. This bijou home is perfect for a romantic getaway or single traveller wanting to appreciate the stunning South Hams.

East Portlemouth sits opposite the popular town of Salcombe which is easily accessed from this via the passenger ferry. The village itself has a café by the beach, along with the fabulous Port Waterhouse, with pop up dining events and a bar open seasonally, and some fabulous sandy beaches along with direct access to the South West Coast Path. A very scenic two mile walk takes you to The Gara Rock Resort, serving delicious food with some of the best scenery a restaurant could provide, plus a spa and cinema room. The nearby village of South Pool also boasts a gastro pub, the Millbrook Inn. The bustling market town of Kingsbridge is a thirty minute drive away, with shops, pubs, eateries and a cinema and in the other direction along the picturesque coastal road is the historic Naval town of Dartmouth, again well serviced with amenities. This popular location along with this fantastic property have all the ingredients for an idyllic holiday come rain or shine.

Out of the main season the house next door may also have guests. They have their own access, terrace area and use of the gardens exclusively, so your privacy is maintained.

Short breaks may be available during the quieter months, please call to discuss your requirements.

Outside

Terrrace area with table and chairs, outside of the patio doors of the annex. The gardens and terrace in front of the house are for house guests only.

PLEASE BE AWARE THE WALLS SURROUNDING THE TERRACE ARE APPROXIMATELY 3-4 FEET HIGH WITH A SLOPE OR DROP BEYOND.

The local area

East Portlemouth is small village in a fantastic location, giving you the best of both worlds: you can enjoy the glorious golden sandy beaches and laid back atmosphere right on your doorstep, or take the short hop across on the passenger ferry to the bustling and lively town of Salcombe.

This area is a hub for sailing and water-sports enthusiasts, and we even have a holiday cottage with its own private beach and mooring if you want to bring your own boat! If you’re feeling adventurous you might enjoy kayaking or paddle-boarding down the Salcombe estuary towards the nearby town of Kingsbridge, rewarding yourself with lunch at the popular waterside Crabshell Inn, just be sure to check tide times so you don't get stranded on the mud before you get back again!

From Salcombe, pick up the well-trodden but tranquil South West Coast Path and head to Hope Cove which has two beaches, a couple of cafés and a pub. Alternatively from East Portlemouth, ramble towards Prawle Point, Devon's most southerly point, where you’ll find a Watchstation manned by volunteers and magnificent views out to sea. This is also a superb spot for birdwatching as many migratory species gather here before taking flight. If you take a diversion about a kilometre inland to East Prawle, you’ll find refreshments at the Pigs Nose Inn or the village shop and café.

As Salcombe is brimming with holidaymakers enjoying the numerous shops, cafés and restaurants, in East Portlemouth you can sit back and relax, far (well, far enough!) from the madding crowd and simply enjoy spectacular views of the water and surrounding South Devon hills.

A holiday cottage in East Portlemouth is a peaceful base for a relaxing holiday in the Salcombe area.
