Tucked away in a peaceful green valley less than a mile from the picturesque waterside village of Durgan, this charming detached wooden cabin offers the perfect relaxing holiday retreat near the maritime town of Falmouth. Set within the grounds of the owner’s home, a gentle stream flows through the gardens down towards the beautiful Helford River.

The cabin is situated on the edge of the lovely village of Mawnan Smith, where you’ll find a local shop and a traditional thatched pub full of Cornish character. The scenic hamlet of Durgan is within easy walking distance, while the stunning gardens of Glendurgan and Trebah are just a short stroll or drive away, featuring exotic plants and pathways leading to the river.

Just over five miles away lies the vibrant coastal town of Falmouth, home to the world-famous National Maritime Museum and a fantastic selection of shops, restaurants, and waterfront attractions. The historic city of Truro, with its impressive cathedral, charming cafés, and variety of independent and high street shops, is also well worth exploring and can be reached in around 30 minutes by car.

Outside

Set in a sunny South facing position with grassy areas for sunbathing and gravelled terrace with garden furniture and attractive Cornish stone and brick barbecue. Owners are happy to accommodate boats and trailers within the grounds of the property by prior arrangement. The grounds surrounding the Cabin are not fully enclosed so pets will need to be supervised when outside.

The local area

Life in Falmouth revolves around the sea. Boats of every shape and size fill the waterfront, from colourful fishing boats on the old quay, shiny super yachts in the marinas and huge ships in the industrial docks. You’ll find freshly-caught seafood on the menu of Falmouth’s many restaurants, and hear songs about the the sea belted out at the annual Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival.

Built around the third largest deep-water harbour in the world, this bustling town is steeped in maritime history. In 1540, King Henry VIII built Pendennis Castle on the edge of the Fal estuary to defend against invasions and protect the Carrick Roads waterway. Over 200 years later, it was Falmouth where the news of Nelson’s death, and Britain’s victory at Trafalgar, was first landed and taken to London.

Today, you can embark on your own voyage of discovery at the National Maritime Museum. With 15 galleries, interactive exhibits, a boatbuilding workshop and an underwater viewing window, kids and adults alike will love learning about Falmouth’s vibrant past.

Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a total novice, a holiday in Falmouth isn’t complete without taking to the water. Thanks to its sheltered harbour, Falmouth is one of the UK’s premier sailing destinations so it’s a great place to learn the ropes and set sail. Or why not your try your hand at kayaking, paddle boarding or scuba diving? For a more relaxing approach, hop aboard one of the many boat trips leaving Falmouth harbour, heading to the pretty fishing village of St Mawes, Cornwall’s capital, Truro, or to catch your own fish supper. Make sure to keep an eye out for wildlife along the way – if you’re lucky you might spot seals, dolphins and basking sharks.

If you haven’t found your sea legs, there’s plenty to keep you entertained on dry land. Explore the historic ramparts of Pendennis Castle, stroll through Falmouth’s many gardens or hit the shops; Falmouth’s pretty streets are filled with quirky boutique shops, high street names and artisan cafés. There’s also a real creative buzz in Falmouth. You’ll find art galleries, including the award-winning Falmouth Art Gallery, live music and a busy calendar of festivals, regattas and events.

No holiday in Cornwall is complete without a trip to the beach, and you’re spoilt for choice in this beautiful corner of south west Cornwall. Gyllyngvase, just a short walk from the town centre, is Falmouth’s most popular beach. There’s a large, sweeping stretch of golden sand, clear waters and an award-winning café, Gylly Beach Cafe. A little further along the coast path you’ll find Swanpool and Maenporth, two beautiful sandy coves with sheltered waters and family-friendly facilities. If you dream of having a beach to yourself, the nearby Helford River estuary is peppered with smuggler coves and tranquil inlets.

The South West Coast Path is right on the doorstep of our Falmouth holiday cottages, offering panoramic sea views no matter which way you turn. What’s more, there’s a whole host of countryside trails and walks along both the Fal and Helford rivers, making Falmouth an ideal destination for walking holidays and dog-friendly holidays in Cornwall.
